Time-varying Effect of Inflation Uncertainty

This paper investigates the effect of the uncertainty associated with the inflation, on inflation over time using the monthly wholesale price index data for the time period 1964–2016 and applying a stochastic volatility in mean model with the time-varying parameter. The evidence indicates a mixed impact as both positive and negative estimates are obtained.

Droughts, Heatwaves and Agricultural Adaptation

Extreme events as floods, droughts and heat waves ensue from climate change. There has been an increase in the frequency and intensity of such events in the past two decades. Some of the recent events have caused substantial damage to agricultural crops and loss to human lives. The recurrence of such events is a threat to social welfare, economy and humanity as a whole. Adaptation to climate change is the key and the way forward. It is observed that agriculture has historically adapted to shocks and extreme events. Agricultural adaptation and resiliency to extreme events over the last three and a half decades is gauged using secondary data.

Decomposing Variability in Agricultural Prices

Has government intervention in India's agriculture in the post-World Trade Organisation period helped in lowering the variability in domestic prices by not allowing the full transmission of international price signals? Examining this question, this paper makes an attempt to decompose changes in the domestic prices of select agricultural commodities by using a decomposition model. This allows separating the factors responsible for changes in domestic prices and quantifying their effects. The key variables in the model are trade prices, the exchange rate, and agricultural trade policies.
